How to Measure for Window Shutters
Window shutters provide insulation, privacy, and a stylish touch. Proper measurements ensure a perfect fit.
A. Choosing Between Inside Mount & Outside Mount
✔ Inside Mount Shutters (Fits inside the window frame)
Provides a clean, built-in look.
Requires a window depth of at least 2 inches for proper installation.
Works best for windows with square, even openings.
✔ Outside Mount Shutters (Mounted outside the window frame)
Covers the entire window and provides better light control.
Ideal for windows with shallow depth or uneven surfaces.
Allows for more flexibility in size and design.
B. Measuring for Inside Mount Shutters
Measure the Width
Measure the inside width of the window at three points: top, middle, and bottom.
Use the smallest width to ensure a snug fit.
Measure the Height
Measure from the inside top of the frame to the bottom inside frame at three points: left, middle, and right.
Use the largest height to ensure full coverage.
Check the Window Depth
Ensure at least 2 inches of depth to mount the shutters inside the frame.
If depth is insufficient, consider outside mount shutters instead.
Check for Obstructions
Look for window locks, cranks, or handles that might interfere with installation.
Ensure that the frame is even and level for a proper fit.
C. Measuring for Outside Mount Shutters
Measure the Width
Measure the total width of the window opening.
Add 3-4 inches on each side to allow for full coverage and light control.
Measure the Height
Measure from the top of the window to the point where you want the shutters to end.
Add 2-3 inches above and below the window for full coverage.
Check the Mounting Space
Ensure you have enough wall space around the window for proper installation.
